KUALA LUMPUR: A jungle audition in Sarawak will provide a special experience for participants of the Malaysian edition of the Ford Models Supermodel of the World Search 2011.
The audition will held in the Gua Longhouse in Miri on Jan 23.
Organising chairman Datuk Nancy Yeoh said the decision to start the nationwide search in Sawarak instead of Kuala Lumpur had caught many by surprise.
“We are looking for the ultimate Malaysian woman to present to the world and she may not necessarily be living in the city.
“We have a fabulous rainforest with some exotic, undiscovered people living in it. As they cannot afford to come to us, so we are going to them,” said Yeoh, who is also president and chief executive officer of Stylo International, which organises the pageant in partnership with Sepang International Circuit.
The winner will represent Malaysia at the world final in New York City in August, which also marks the 30th anniversary of the renowned event.
The winner will be groomed at Stylo Academy before travelling to New York.
The Supermodel Search showcases young fashion model entrants from over 50 countries with the aim of discovering new talent for the fashion industry.
Orang Ulu National Association co-ordinator Margaret Nawan said the search would encourage East Malaysian women who have never had the opportunity to take part in international events such as this.
“We only have local level events and the Kumang Gawai. This collaboration presents them with a new opportunity,” she said.
The search will continue in Penang and Johor before the finale in Kuala Lumpur.
It is open to all Malaysian women aged 18 and above. Participants younger than 18 (minimum 14 years of age) require written parental approvals. Interested parties should contact the Ford Supermodel hotline at 014-7297541 or email fordsupermodels@stylo-international.com.
